    The matter with love

When you are young, you think that love is just around the corner, and you can get it whenever you want to, which is a bit like buying a bottle of coke in the supermarket --- it takes some effort to get into the supermarket, search in the place, find that shelf, pick up your favourite flavour, go to the counter and pay for it, and there you go.

But unfortunately, love is so rare that finding love is like finding a perfect match to yourself, a mirrored image of yourself which somehow has taken the form of the opposite gender. When love is there, the blandest words would have the magic of connecting two souls. Even with silence, when you sincerely look into your lover’s eyes, deeply, you just know that such connection exists, and it’s so warm and beautiful, it touches your heart.

And maybe it is because true love is just so beautiful and delicate, that it must not be easily found. One must go through suffering and loneliness to know love, to be able to give love and be loved.

However fortunately for ordinary beings like us, the difficulty with finding true love somehow makes us better people. For that, we no longer allow ourselves to live in the fairy tale illusion of our childish immaturity; we swallow the bitterness of life and accept the pain that goes with it to become wiser. We no longer take things for granted and try to reach the things our ego unreasonably demands; we cherish every little blessing, every little beautiful thing that has been laid upon us, a beautiful weather, a nice feast, a smile from stranger, a simple complement…

The matter with love, like every other thing in the world, is a two-sided thing --- we cannot know the whole picture unless we consider the both sides of it, good and bad, beautiful and ugly, sweet and bitter… and these two sides are equally important.
